Ten years. A whole decade. And when asked to sum it up in just one word, Amanda’s answer was simple: “Enjoyable.”
It’s an impressive milestone in any business, but even more so when you consider that Gooding Accounts itself only began in 2014. Amanda joined just two years later, making her one of the very first employees and giving her a front-row seat to its growth from a small team into the thriving business it is today.
When Amanda first joined, things looked a little different. The team consisted of just four others, and while we’ve grown considerably since then, some things haven’t changed at all. According to Amanda, one constant has been Sam, who remains “supportive and a little quirky” – a combination that many of us would probably agree with!
From day one, Amanda felt right at home. “I remember how welcoming Sam was and how at ease I felt,” she recalls. That feeling of support and belonging has remained a huge part of her journey. In fact, when asked what makes the team special, her answer wasn’t about the work itself, but the people. Despite the firm’s growth, she says the team has managed to keep its close-knit culture, where everyone remains approachable, supportive and genuinely caring.
It’s also those relationships that have helped shape some of her most meaningful memories. One story that perfectly sums up her experience here is the care and support she received from colleagues throughout her dad’s illness. “It’s the support we’ve always shown one another,” she says. “No matter what is going on outside of work, people genuinely care.”
Of course, it hasn’t all been serious moments. There have been plenty of laughs along the way too. One particularly memorable highlight was an office Christmas party where, by her own admission, she may have enjoyed a few too many drinks in front of her colleagues for the very first time! Then there was the unforgettable trip to Snowdon, where the team encouraged one another every step of the way.
“We didn’t all know each other that well at the time, but everyone worked together and supported each other. It really showed what kind of team we are.”

When it comes to the work itself, Amanda has been fortunate enough to spend much of her career focusing on the areas she enjoys most: bookkeeping and reconciliations. Having the opportunity to specialise in work she genuinely loves has been a major reason she’s stayed for a decade. Along the way, she’s also picked up some valuable lessons. “The best thing I’ve learned is that mistakes happen. The important thing is to learn from them rather than dwell on them.” Wise words for anyone, whether they’re on day one or year ten.
Congratulations, Amanda, on an incredible 10 years. Thank you for everything you’ve contributed to the team, the clients you’ve supported, and the positive energy you’ve brought to the firm every day.
