Sherelyn and Corey are recovering after facing one of the UK’s toughest endurance events – the Jurassic Coast 100km Ultra. Their epic challenge started early on Saturday 16th May and followed a beautiful – but punishing – stretch of the famous Jurassic Coast. Known for its relentless hills and unforgiving terrain, the route pushes even seasoned ultra marathon athletes to their limits.

22 Hours, Endless Hills and a 1am Battle with Chesil Beach

Sherelyn crossed the finish line at 5am on Sunday morning after being on the move continuously for more than 22 hours. Despite being an experienced distance runner, she admitted this was by far the hardest event she has ever taken on.

“The hills were steep, but that wasn’t the worst part, Chesil Beach was an absolute killer – about 10km of shingle beach at 1am in the morning made me swear quite a lot!”

Anyone familiar with the Jurassic Coast route will know exactly what she means. Between the steep climbs, uneven coastal paths and endless stretches of shingle, this challenge is as much mental as it is physical.

From First 5K to 82km Ultra

While Sherelyn had experience with endurance events, this was completely new territory for Corey. In fact, before signing up, he’d never even run 5km! Yet it was Corey who first suggested taking on the challenge, with Sherelyn agreeing to train alongside him and complete the event together. Over the following months, the pair spent countless hours training across the Wiltshire countryside, preparing themselves for the huge test ahead.

Sadly, Corey was forced to stop at the 82km mark after suffering an ankle injury. Although disappointed not to complete the full 100km, his achievement is still nothing short of incredible.

“Corey wanted to carry on, but medically he really shouldn’t have,” explained Sherelyn. “I made him stop before he injured himself any further – but completing 82km having never done anything like this before is incredible and we’re all so proud of him.”

And it sounds like this may not be the end of Corey’s ultra-running journey either. Despite the injury, he’s already considering taking on another 100km event in the future – though perhaps one with slightly fewer hills!

Raising funds for Mental Health Charities

The challenge wasn’t just about personal achievement. Both Sherelyn and Corey took on the Jurassic Coast Ultra to raise money for causes close to their hearts.

Sherelyn raised an amazing £515 for Best Mates, a Wiltshire charity that supports people through difficult times by offering peer support, understanding and safe spaces to talk openly. The charity has a particularly personal connection for Sherelyn, who also helps run the organisation’s “Walk N Talk Wednesdays” group in Melksham.

Meanwhile, Corey raised a fantastic £650 for Mind, helping support mental health services and individuals across England and Wales.

The End of the Road… Maybe

Sherelyn has described the Jurassic Coast Ultra as her “retirement ultra” – at least when it comes to 100km events. But if her team-mates at Gooding Accounts are right, this probably won’t be the last epic fundraising challenge we see her take on.
